Jackson and Carly // Sydney Scout Camp Wedding

Jackson and Carly really threw away tradition with their Baden Powell Scout Camp wedding in Pennant Hills, on the outskirts of Sydney. They wanted to express themselves through their wedding and not just go through the motions on the usual wedding traditions.

When looking for a venue, they knew they wanted somewhere that was in the bush, that their family and friends could all stay at and that didn’t break the bank. They settled on Baden Powell Scout Camp which was actually the first time a wedding had been held here and had hundreds of bunk beds to rest their guests after a long night of partying. You would never imagine this little forest gem was only a half hours drive from Sydney’s CBD, set in authentic Australian bushland and featuring a large stone amphitheatre perfect for a wedding ceremony and plenty of awesome spots for photography. Most of the wedding, from the food and cake to the table styling was done by their family and friends, a testament to the love and dedication towards this pair.

A fun idea they had was to pull their witnesses names out of a hat. A great idea to make everyone attending the wedding feel important to the day. The second addition to their new wedding traditions was to have a sacrificial burning in honour of their love and vowels made that day. A tongue in cheek nod to the practices of ancient societies, they asked each of the guests to bring one item that had significance to them and the couple to sacrifice to a huge bonfire they built. It was really refreshing (especially as someone who has attended over 200 weddings) to experience something so unique and fun!

‘The burning’ was followed by an amazing outdoor dinner under festoon lights prepared by one of their friends who is a renowned chef, then cutting loose on the dance floor well into the night.
